Lots of things have been happening in life lately. I’m pretty busy and I don’t have a lot of time to update the website for a while. I’ll try to squeeze in some time within the days so I can add new blog posts, and update you on what’s going on. Please stay tuned.

Hi there everyone, since the last overhaul I thought the design was a little too dark and ugly. Now I’ve changed it into a lighter clean and crisp design.
Here is a quick list of what I’ve changed/added:
Overall
- New design! Now it’s more user friendly and has a clean and crisp look
to it.
- When I did the last overhaul, I decided to make Mushiku with the topic
of Music. But now it’s back to technology as the main one. (#1, Technology
- #2, Games - #3, Music .. for example).
- Fixed some spelling errors, validated some XHTML and CSS errors and optimized some CSS files.
Forum
- New forums have been added like: A "Goodbyes" forum, A "Mushiku In
Games" forum (which might be renamed later), A "Web Scripts" forum, for if
you need help on using some popular CMS, blog systems, or discussion boards out there.
- The "Share A Website" forum has been moved to the Off-Topic forum.
These changes are most noticeable on the website.
With regard, thanks.

If you use Windows Vista as your operating system, you may have encountered a problem in the start menu. When you press "All Programs" you’ll see a "Programs" folder in the list. I’m not sure what could’ve caused this or if it happens to everybody, but here’s a simple solution for it. This only applies to the normal start menu style, not the classic one.
Press the Windows Vista Pearl (Start Button) -> All Programs -> Right Click All Programs and Press Properties -> Click the "Customize…" button next to the Start Menu option -> Untick the "Default Programs" field and click OK.
The duplicate "Programs" folder should now be gone.
Thanks.

Well it took a couple of weeks, but I’ve completely finished designing the website. Everything looks easy to the eyes (as my friends say so) and it looks better and more original to say the least.
There are a few things that are not correct with this new overhaul and I will tell you all now.
- If you were registered on the forum before the overhaul, then you have to reset your password by pressing the “lost my password” link on the log-in page. That problem has occurred when I tried to fix the permissions system problem on the forum by trying to convert phpBB to SMF then fixing the permissions there and then back to phpBB. I have also found a way to fix the permission problems without converting anymore.
- The new design doesn’t look correct in some browsers. In most versions of Safari and Internet Explorer the left and right rounded corner bars won’t display correctly (darker color than main page). It looks fine in Firefox 2 and 3 for some reason. Also everything is in the incorrect position (out-of-place) in Internet Explorer 8 Beta 1.
Hopefully I can find a solution to the design not be correct in some browsers soon or someone can suggest one. The first problem with the forum passwords problem is easy because you just press the “lost my password” link on the forum log-in page then put in your user name or e-mail then click the link in the e-mail then enter the new password in your profile.
I’m very sorry for the inconvenience. I hope the new design looks better though!
Thanks.

Since phpBB 3’s permission system was giving me a lot of problems with everyone’s post requiring permission, and after seeing that the phpBB support forum is not that great. This means that I might convert the current forum to another forum solution. But phpBB 3 by default seems to have the best features that I need to run the forum without any mods. I’ve decided to remake the whole design of Mushiku and try to recreate the forum. I’m not sure if I can convert the forum data over, or use another system. But I’m still planning everything so don’t expect everything too early. Of course, it’s still undecided if I should actually do this or not. I have created backups in case I revert back and do something else.
Also instead of technology as the main topic, I plan on making the main topic about Music since Mushiku is how you pronounce Myujikku in Japanese which means Music. Of course I will still have technology discussion and support forum in the Other category. It’s just that Music will be the main category. There will still be a “All About Mushiku” as well as be a projects forum and special in-game groups/clans/guilds forum. I actually admit that I should’ve registered the domain under Myujikku, but I made that mistake while looking up the name a while back. Well it’s too late for a change now since that was a long time ago. Besides Mushiku is easier to type and remember.
I’m planning on designing a custom theme for Mushiku but will need suggestions and help from my friends and of course the community. I may implement some images and code from the old template into the new theme. I’m currently trying to experiment with my current Adobe Photoshop CS3 skills as well as using these programs mainly: MS Paint and GIMP. The current code I use for the maintenance page is currently very “dirty, by that I mean the code is very messy and the stylesheet is uncomplete. The XHTML/HTML and CSS code might not be valid as of yet. The logo I’ve created for the maintenance page turned out pretty good. =)
The statuses for what I am working for is below in the table on the maintenance page. It’s frequently updated but don’t expect everything to be finished in just a couple of days.
These the are topics that will be focused on the most. The main topic is music, the others are gaming and technology. There can be other topics as well, but those were just the main ones.
Thanks.

Here are some useful Firefox 2 and 3 tweaks I’ve found online. This one is to make the spell checker work for single-line input fields instead of just multi-line input fields.
- Change the value of “layout.spellcheckDefault” in Firefox 2 or 3 from 1 to 2 to make it work for both single-line and multi-line input fields instead of just multi-line fields.
- Change the Boolean value “gfx.color_management.enabled” to true to enable color management for Firefox. It is disabled by default. This is a very important feature to make sure that all colors on the page renders correctly. The only problem is “If the monitor is not calibrated correctly for use with the color profile, displayed colors may look worse with color management on.”.
These next few tweaks are for making Firefox download and display pages faster. This is recommended for broadband users, dial-up users please use at risk. If any of the strings, integers, and boolean keys don’t exist please create it. I have found some keys that have not exist by default in my about:config page and must be created. I have listed some of those below (and for you it might be different).
- In your Firefox address bar type “about:config”.
- Find “network.http.pipelining” and change the value to true (default is false).
- Find “network.http.proxy.pipelining” and change the value to true (default is false).
- Find “network.http.pipelining.maxrequests”. You can change it to any number more than the default (default is 4 in FF3) number. I recommend using 20 or 30 as the value.
- This one change anything about the page load speed but will make the short interval before first rendering a page faster. Find “nglayout.initialpaint.delay” and change the value to 0. If it doesn’t exist create it by right clicking anywhere in the configuration page and press “New -> Integer” and type the name as “nglayout.initialpaint.delay” and the value as 0. You should be aware that the page will be rendered earlier until it’s finished downloading.
- Find “network.http.max-connections” and change the value to 48.
- Find “network.http.max-connections-per-server” and change the value to 16.
- Find “network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-proxy” and change the value to 16.
- Find “network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-server” and change the value to 8.
- Find “content.interrupt.parsing” and set the value as true. If this boolean does not exist then create it by right clicking anywhere in the configuration page and press “New -> Boolean” and type the name as “content. interrupt.parsing” and set the value as true.
- Find “content.notify.ontimer” and set the value as true. If this boolean does not exist please create it.
- Find “content.max.tokenizing.time” and change the value to 2250000. If this integer does not exist please create it.
- Find “content.notify.interval” and set the value to 750000. If this integer does not exist please create it.
- Find “content.switch.threshold” and set the value to 750000. If this integer does not exist please create it.
If you wish to undo these tweaks you can right click on the key and press reset.
Thanks.

Have you’ve been to gaming blogs or YouTube lately and have seen all of these new videos and content about “Spore”? But you wonder, what is it? It’s been talked about for the past couple of years and it will come soon.
Spore is a multi-genre “massively single-player online game” under development by Maxis and designed by Will Wright. It allows a player to control the evolution of a species from its beginnings as a unicellular organism, through development as an intelligent and social creature, to interstellar exploration as a spacefaring culture. It has drawn wide attention for its massive scope, and its use of open-ended gameplay and procedural generation.
The full version of the game is due to be released on September 5, 2008 in Europe, and September 7, 2008 in North America and other territories. Spore will also be available for direct download from Electronic Arts on September 7.
- Wikipedia
Basically Spore is a online single player game created by Maxis and can be currently played on Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X. You can download a trial from the Spore web site or just buy it from the stores, it’s just about $10. You can create a lot creatures and control the evolution from the creature’s beginning to end. Currently only the “Spore Creature Creator” has been released. A user on the Mushiku Reach blogs has posted about a special Spore feature, one where creatures can be exported and imported as a PNG file, if you would like to read his post you can click this link.
All I can say is just be patient, the release is almost here (about four months to be exact).

I have installed Maxthon 2 and Firefox 3 multiple times on my computer. What browser do you use as your main browser? In this post I take Maxthon 2.1.1 and Firefox 3 to the challenge to see which one has more features and what not. Of course the choice remains for you to decide which one works best for you. All of the comparisons below use fresh installed browsers, no new installed plug-ins, themes, and so on.
This is all based on my personal preference. Meaning to other people their pros and cons list might be different based on an average user or their preferences. Continue reading…

After checking out FileHippo.com, I see that Piriform, the company that brought you CCleaner, has created another useful application called “Defraggler” for Windows. The new application allows you to defragment and check your drives for errors in a clean but simple interface and best of all, it’s free!
You can find out more information about this tool over at their web site.
